Best usage:
This 3M acrylic foam tape is designed for mounting aluminum LED profiles/channels and other lighting accessories to a wide range of surfaces (metal, glass, plastic, anodized aluminum). It's a strong, permanent, water-resistant alternative to screws or clips, well suited to outdoor and long-term installations. It acts as an electrical insulator rather than a heat conductor, so it's best suited for securing profiles/channels rather than components like LED strips that need to diffuse heat.
Installation procedure:
- Clean the surface. Water alone can be used for a quick clean, but for best results, use a 50:50 to 70:30 isopropyl alcohol/water solution with a lint-free cloth. For oily or greasy surfaces, degrease first, then follow with the alcohol/water wipe. Avoid household glass cleaners or ammonia-based products, they can leave residue that weakens the bond.
- Let the surface dry fully.
- Cut the tape to length to match your profile.
- Peel one liner and press the tape onto the mounting surface, applying firm, even pressure.
- Peel the second liner to expose the top adhesive.
- Attach the profile/component, pressing firmly along the full length to maximize contact.
- Allow the bond to cure for about 24 hours before handling or loading it.
- Apply within the recommended temperature range (roughly 16–38°C / 60–100°F) for best adhesion.
WARNING: Do not use the Double Sided 3M Acrylic Tape on LED Strips as there could be a risk of damage to the LED strip. Double Sided 3M Acrylic Tape is not made for heat dissipation. The Double Sided 3M Acrylic Tape works as an insulator and can be used for profiles. For an optimal heat disipation, you can purchase the 3M Double Sided Adhesive Thermal Tape.
